Easily Understand and Make the Most of Synergy Solar Feed-In Tariff

Solar Panel Feed IN Tariff

Synergy solar feed-in tariff called DEBS (Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme) is not as generous as what you will find in other Aussie states with more competition and flexible energy markets. Still, there is no reason not to take advantage of it. If you are eligible, you might as well get something back for the power you send to the grid instead of letting it go for free.

Fee

The good news is, the savings from a solar system usually cover these upfront costs within a month or two. It is always a smart move to know what you are paying for before diving in.

FeesCost
DEBS processing fee$12.32 per account (GST included)
Meter costs for switching to DEBSCost
Single phase meter$105.93 (GST included)
Three phase meter$105.93 (GST included)

For these costs, you will get 10c for every unit (kWh) your solar system sends to the grid during peak times (3 pm to 9 pm) and 2c per unit during off-peak hours (before 3 pm or after 9 pm). Keep in mind, Western Power might need to add communication equipment to your meter in some cases, which could mean an extra charge.

Do You Qualify?

If you are a residential customer with a solar inverter capacity of 5 kW or less, you are good to go! For non-residential customers in the Perth and Bunbury areas, only not for profits and educational organisations can access Synergy solar feed-in tariff.

To qualify, you will need:
✅ Approval from both Synergy and Western Power to connect to the grid.
✅ An approved bi-directional meter (as mentioned earlier).

Got a solar system with batteries? No worries, you can still receive the DEBS tariff as long as your battery export limit is set to 0 kW.
